Speech 21 January Hugo Coveliers
Today we witness an act of democracy and pluralism in our country. I am very honoured to welcome your new branch of the Churches of Scientology for Europe in the heart of Brussels.
I have known the Church’s sincere commitment in social fields that need attention and action. What strikes me the most is how your members help people without any distinction of their origin, what they do, or what their opinion is. No, they just help people.
We are living in a 21st century World where we have armies of soldiers, fighting everywhere. What this World needs is a global army of peace. And I believe that your Volunteer Ministers are that army.
With their hands, their actions and their words, they are the counterforce of soldiers of war. And one day those soldiers will not be needed anymore.
For me it is important to know that you are available at any moment to help this country. You set an example that every country should follow.
This new Church in the capital city of Europe stands as a beautiful testament to your help, and you can be certain of my continued support.
You care for people, and this church is an example of this attitude.
The Scientology Volunteer Ministers give us a lesson of courage, dedication and persistence. I am aware of how fast your Volunteer Ministers reacted after the catastrophic tsunami and flew to India.
I have seen how they trained Buddhist monks so that they in turn would be able to use your technology to help others, this moved me deeply. This in fact is such a wonderful example of interreligious commitment and of how a religion of the 20th century, Scientology, can help a religion which is 2,500 years old.
This showed me how, over the centuries, the willingness and tradition to maintain the religious influence in society is alive within Scientology. Your contribution to such a tradition and influence is outstanding.
I am also aware of your Volunteer Ministers response to the devastating earthquake in Haiti and their effective leadership.
I remember that one day you showed me these wonderful words of Mr. Hubbard. They summarize so well the reason of your existence and of the existence of this church:
“A Scientology Volunteer Minister does not shut his eyes to the pain, evil and injustice of existence. A Scientology Volunteer Minister is a person who helps his fellow man on a volunteer basis by helping restore purpose, truth and spiritual values tot the lives of others.”
There is a lot to do to achieve these purposes.
I know you are busy working at them and I wish this new beautiful Church and all its Volunteer Ministers and Parishioners to be very successful for the greater benefit of this country.
Congratulations and thank you.
